Metropolis

While watching this film I could not help but notice the similarities in society during the 1920s to modern day.  During this film society was structured to have the working class live in the depths and work day and night while the upper class live in the above city with beautiful views. Although todays society is not as strictly structured this way, there is a working class and an upper class that live completely separate lives similar to this. Because of this divide I believe the working class is more heavily influenced. In the movie we saw how angelic Maria was preaching to the working class in a religious way and the people followed and listened to her. When the "bad" Maria or the robot Maria came to life and was out to destroy the city the working class listened and follow her just as easily as they did before without even questioning the motive. I believe that these people who are put in the working class living in harsh conditions need someone and something to believe in even if it is wrong or rebellious. In todays society we see how easily the young generation and working middle class people are influenced which is mainly through social media. Whether the aim is appearance, career, fame, or religion people are constantly looking at the upper class and working to obtain their lifestyle or things that they own. This makes the working class targets that can be easily manipulated, exactly what the mad scientist did in order to destroy Joh's city.

I also noticed how it took the city burning down and being destroyed in order for the upper class and Joh to see how wrong they were. Without such a big catastrophic event happening in their lives would there have been any change? Any realization that their society was unfair? This makes me think of todays society when large events are almost forced to occur in order for basic human rights to be given like BLM or LGBTQ rights. The working class is forced to make a change and fight for themselves because the upper class or people in power do not advocate for them or see what it is like to be in their position. It took Freder working a shift to see and feel the pain these workers feel everyday and he knew that he could do something to help which started the change to start occur. I think that even in todays society everyone but especially people who have the means to make a difference need to put themselves in a position where they could see that everyone deserves rights and fairness.

5th Element: Fashion Show

I enjoyed watching the futuristic movie 5th element. I particularly enjoyed the fashion that was shown in the movie. I thought it was minimalistic but very futuristic. Leeloo had few outfits but the ones she wore were incredible and vibrant. I also really liked Zorg’s outfit, it showed men’s work wear but also had a shiny green color that made it different than what we see today especially on men. This is what inspired me for my fashion outfit. I wanted to use menswear and reconstruct it into a women’s look and repurpose items like a tie. I went to the thrift store not having an exact idea of what I was doing and I came across 2 gorgeous purple stri[ped men’s button downs, one specifically that had a green tint to it which made it unique. I then found a large lavender skirt that I cut up to make floating sleeves. I found a children’s vest that I would have my model fit into and wear. I found a lavender fur scarf that would be cut and glued around the trim of the vest. I also bought a p...

Ready Player One notes

I really enjoyed the movie, my group decided to use Minecraft to interview a stranger. I asked the stranger what he wears in the game vs what he wear in real life. He said we wears armor in the game and shorts and a t shirt in real life. I thought it was important to ask him what he wears because in Ready Player one, Wyatt wore nice clothes and wore things based on how he wanted to appear to other in the game even if he could not wear these clothes in real life.      The second question I asked was what his hobbies/job was in the game vs real life. He said that his character in the game builds houses and breeds villagers but in real life he works in a car dealership. This is very different and it depends on the game but clearly he does this as a hobby in the game but would not necessarily chose to do it in real life.      This relates to my health science major because I believe video games like this are a source of relaxation and people go on th...

The Matrix: Conclusion

After hearing the Matrix debate whether to take the red pill or blue pill, I stand with wanting to take the blue pill. I could not take the red pill knowing that Morpheus could be lying or untrustworthy. I understand wanting to now the truth of the world you live in and have free will but how can you truly have free will if you dont know the person giving it to you. Taking the blue pill is not ignorant but rather smart, this allows you to maintain the life you have and attempt to figure out the truth if you decide to. I don't think everyone would be ready to know the truth that Morpheus had to offer. Or even worse, some people may think they are ready and end up like Cypher, resenting everyone around him and trying to go back to the Matrix at any cost. I also know I might regret taking the red pill when I found out that everyone was chosen as "the one"  and we are all the same and might not make any actually difference. Knowing Morpheus before and after ta...
